Long review, short item.To start, I got black stickum on my fingers from black cable left from the manufacturing process. It was on the cable near the cover. The cable cleaned up easily with that orange stickum cleaner you can find at Walmart. Not a big issue as most items have tags, which when removed, leave a sticky residue that needs cleaning. The mini-safe is about 3-1/8th inches long, about 4-1/4 including the combination tower. It is about 1-7/8ths wide with the sides curved so there is an insignificant loss of space because it is not square. The cable is about 6-1/2 inches long from combination tower to tip of loop. The width of the opening is about 3/4th inches wide. However there is a locking pin which engages the cover lock when attaching the cover to the top of the safe. This obstructs about half the width opening and leaves only about 3/8ths of an inch of the width opening at the top edge of the safe to drop things in. So you have about 3/8ths of an inch to drop in keys, or whatever, into the safe to avoid the pin. Once down into the safe there is more room. So you can put more items inside, one or two at a time, as long as none are wider than a 3/8ths inch in order to get through the obstruction of the locking pin.I got four or five keys inside easily. It may not handle some of the larger car keys today that have remotes etc. attached to them. But most house keys should easily fit inside. Keys shouldn't be longer than 2-1/2 inches long or wider than just under 3/8th inch. You could fit coins easily, including the gold dollar coins. And I suppose folded bills, but they may be harder to fish out again as they would probably expand beneath the locking pin and require needle nose pliers or tweezers to wiggle them out. Best for small hard items that can just be shaken out like keys, coins or whatever. The box is metal and appears very strong when locked. There is a tiny drain hole in the bottom to allow water to drip out if left in the rain. It is supposed to be an indoor/outdoor lock. But it is not waterproof, so you wouldn't want things in it that could get damaged if left out in the rain. There is a 3-ring combination dial which is pre-set at the factory with a tag affixed to the tower with the combination number. You will want to be sure to write the number where you can find it incase you forget the number. You cannot set your own combination. The number 1 on each combination ring is raised significantly to make the rings easy to rotate. A nice touch. I found that I could just rotate the raised number 1 rings into a line to quickly lock and scramble the numbers as the 1 wasn't part of my combination, so the raised number 1s just line up easily to lock quickly. Of course you can scramble the rings anyway you like. The cable loop slips over the top cover, when the cover is off, to form a loop to lock the safe on to something. It does not slip around the entire safe. So you wrap the loop around something, then pass the cable loop over the cover, with the cover off, and then lock the safe back up to the cover to connect it to something.I purchased the device to place over the door knob of my apartment to keep a key inside incase I lock myself out. Not an uncommon occurrence.I found that the loop was long enough to be able to slip off the door knob. So it is possible someone could easily remove the safe from my door knob. Then they have my safe but key is still locked inside. It would lock best if you have a door handle that mounts to the door in two places on the door creating a looping door handle. But if you aren't concerned with people that might swipe the lock, it fits snug enough on a knob to use and the thinness of the cable allows your fingers to easily turn the knob without interference from the cable around the neck of the knob as happens with some of the padlock designed key boxes. You can always attach the cable to a railing or other fixture or just hang from a hook if you feel no one is going to steal it.Again, the safe is strong. It would probably take a sledge hammer to break it open. The weak part is the cable which could probably be cut with a light duty cable or bolt cutter and the safe taken. (Vandals, pranksters or thieves.)The cable attaches to the top of the locking tower by a small pin. It seems strong to pull on but my guess is that a strong yank with a crowbar or other tool could pull the cable off the safe. But the safe would still be locked, keys inside. But then, you could probably bust a window or a door knob just as easily. You could use it to leave outside when company is coming and you won't be home to let them in. Just give the company the combination. Then remove and keep inside until the next time. Or you can leave it out and hide it or whatever.I definitely would not use this for a Realtor type of lock box on someone else's home. I would buy one of the stronger boxes for just a little more money. But this is only around a $15.00 item. You get that value in this product depending on what you are using it for. I had that much fun just messing with it.Pictures show the lock being used attached to backpack straps etc. Maybe on a bicycle. Who knows.I didn't give more than 3 stars because,1. The obstruction in the opening by the licking pin. (Not a problem if you're just putting keys and small stuff in.)2. The probable ease of just cutting the cable and stealing the box where that is a risk.3. The fact that the cable wasn't short enough to lock securely onto my door knob and could be slipped off the knob.4. There are stronger locks available for around $25.00.But for the price, it is good and I can see a lot of uses for this item.SteveMy only beef with this item is that the picture for it shows it holding a 5 dollar bill. But it's a big beef. My main reason in getting this was to keep my money safe from pickpockets when I'm out at a bar or some other spot where pickpockets congregate. In my opinion it's almost false advertising to picture money being stored in these things. It is VERY tricky to get paper money into this item. What you can't see (until you buy it) is that the inside bottom of this product doesn't have the same smooth contours the outside does. Inside, there are two "pegs" on the left and right sides of the bottom that are welded in place and house some sort of rivets. And there is a "crease" at the point where the very bottom piece is connected to the tubular upper body piece. This seems to have been well sanded and painted over on the outside, but on the inside it isn't at all.The problem with this is, if you take say, 3 bills, fold them in four, and try to stuff them into the mini safe--you can't. The pegs at the bottom stop the bills from going all the way in. In fact, they go just about as far as they're pictured in the advertisement. The only way I've been able to get them to fit is to fold them further into 3rds (once they've already been folded into quarters) which leaves them just about the width of two cigarettes (and by the way, 4 bills were all I was able to comfortably fold this way) and with them folded this way, you have to insert them so that the end of the "roll" goes right to the MIDDLE of the bottom (otherwise they will be blocked by the pegs). So you have to aim toward the middle. And because of the upper locking stem (which is also welded in place on the inside) you can only insert a maximum of two "rolls" of money--one on the left and one on the right. And we're not done yet...remember that "crease" I mentioned? When you try to get the money to go all the way to the bottom the money roll gets stuck at that crease. You have to keep pulling it out a little and pushing it in to get past that crease which is surprisingly snaggy. I found that twisting the roll helps to clear it past that crease. So bottom line: you can fit 8 bills in there, and it has to be done with dexterity. And it has to be set up and done BEFORE you head out, because each time you want to remove 1 bill, you have to remove the 4 together, refold the 3 remaining bills and take your time getting them back in again. All in all - this mini safe is not designed to hold paper currency; it just isn't. The only thing I can imagine it would practically hold are FLAT keys and change. Forget putting a car key in there, with how they all have those thick plastic heads attached to them. And change? Why would I need a safe for about 4 dollars worth in change? This really should be advertised as a Mini KEY Safe and that's it.This product seems ok, made of a sturdy steel material, it definitely seems very stable and durable and is capable of holding 1 or 2 keys when needed. I really do like the cable tether that comes with it, and I plan to use it to tie my key up to my car on my car door handle...I'm not sure if this will be a good thing, but this product definitely came as advertised and will hopefully serve it's purpose.I think that one thing that would be better about this product is if the back of the box had a magnet on it so that it could stick to the car door instead of dangling outside the car door, semi-advertising that the key is in there. I may try to stick a magnet inside of it and see if that'll stick to car door, allowing me to hide the lock box behind the handle so possible thieves won't see it.The cable for this lock box could be thicker too, allowing it to be more of a theft deterrent than it currently is. The design is great though, only one that i could find that would allow a tether and would be perfect to be a removable on to a door handle of a car, which I felt was needed for when I go surfing!Purchased to keep two regular house keys in for my pet sitter. I like that this is a little more discrete vs the big "realtor style" lock boxes for keys. I can lock it to the bike rack outside and it looks like a bike lock. Yes, it is a little small. I put my friend's key and small fob in it so she could come pick up her keys from me and I ended up having to take the key and fob off the key ring to get it to fit. It would probably be fiddly to get folded money out of it. And I find the numbers a little difficult to turn (they are only numbers 1-6 and 3 dials) but hey, for the price it's great for the once or twice a year I'll need to use it.Avec le système pour barrer qui entre à l’intérieur de la boîte, il ne reste plus beaucoup de place.J’ai pu mettre ma clé de la porte d’entrée principale et celle de mon appartement.La boîte est solide avec un bon système à trois chiffres pour la barrer. Le fil d’acier est enrobé de caoutchouc.Pour le prix, c’est un très bon achat. I got this to use if I have to go to the hospital. Last time I was there someone stole my coffee money. This will be able to fasten to my bed rail keeping my $ safe.I agree it is a bit too small for folded dollar bills, but it does work. A bit bigger would make this item totally idealBought to keep my days worth of medication in it. Had previously been having meds go missing. This kept them safe. Safer then a pill container or bottle. Can be strapped to purse of book bag and not easily accessible for someone who shouldn’t be trying to take them from me.The lock is okay ,not very dependable ,the lock is is about 2 month old and it already fell apart. The tumbler just come apart. So if you are protecting anything valuable don't get this lock.
